Texas Taxable Values Rise 5.07%

Property values in Texas are on the rise again—preliminary estimates show statewide taxable property value is projected to reach $4.33 trillion in 2026, a 5.07% increase over 2025. While these gains are steady—about 2.5% expected for 2027 and 5.5% for 2028—they’re a bit more modest than the 6% to 10% annual jumps we’ve seen in past years. Recent tax relief measures are also shaping the landscape: a $140,000 homestead exemption, a new 20% appraisal cap for certain non-homestead properties, and revised exemptions for income-producing tangible personal property. These early estimates play a key role in Texas budget planning and reinforce the continued push for property tax relief, especially as many Texans still feel the squeeze on housing affordability. I’ve seen firsthand how concerns over property valuations can impact families across Fort Bend, Harris, and surrounding counties, as some believe appraisal districts have overvalued properties, driving tax bills higher. As your local real estate expert, I’m always following these trends to best serve buyers, sellers, and investors across Houston and the Dallas Metroplex.
